About this tool
Enter a password of at least four characters and decide whether readers may print or copy text. The file is encrypted with AES-256, which every modern reader supports, and the password never leaves your browser. Keep the password somewhere safe: without it the file cannot be opened, not even by this tool.

- What can I open in Protect PDF?
- Protect PDF accepts PDF. Older video containers such as AVI, WMV, FLV, MPEG and 3GP are decoded by the server encoder.
- Does Protect PDF upload my file?
- Browser-native formats stay in this tab. Formats the browser cannot write (AVI, WMV, HEVC, AMR and similar) go to our encoder and are deleted after the download.
- How large can the file be?
- Free: 500 MB and 8 exports a day. Plus (waitlist) raises the daily cap. A pasted public file URL is also accepted.
