What Batonbox does with your files

Nothing on our servers. Every audio tool on Batonbox runs inside your browser. The file you choose is read by code executing on your device, the result is written to your device, and no copy is transmitted to us. We have no upload endpoint for media files.

If a future tool needs server-side processing, its page will say so explicitly and will not show the "Processed in your browser" badge.

What we do collect

Usage counter. To enforce the free daily limit we store a random identifier in a cookie named bb_cid and a salted hash of your IP address. Together they form a key that counts how many files you exported today. The hash cannot be reversed to your IP, and the counter contains no file names or content. Rows are deleted after 35 days.

Waitlist email. If you join the Plus waitlist we store the address you enter, the language you were using and which page you signed up from. We use it only to tell you when Plus launches and to delete it on request.

Analytics. We run a self-hosted instance of Umami, which counts page views and tool usage events (for example "export completed") without cookies and without sharing data with any third party. Umami stores a hashed, daily-rotating visitor identifier; it cannot track you across sites or days.

Server logs. Our web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, requested URL, user agent) for 14 days for security and debugging.

What we do not do

  • No advertising networks, no ad cookies, no fingerprinting scripts.
  • No sale or sharing of personal data.
  • No accounts are required to use any tool.

Your rights

You can clear the bb_cid cookie at any time from your browser settings. To remove a waitlist email or ask what we hold about you, write to privacy@batonbox.com. We answer within 30 days. If you are in the EU/EEA or UK you have the rights described in the GDPR and UK GDPR, including access, rectification, erasure and complaint to a supervisory authority.

Hosting

Batonbox is served from a server in Chicago, United States. Because media files are never uploaded, your audio does not cross any border; the small amount of data described above is stored in the United States.

Terms of use

The service

Batonbox provides browser-based tools for editing and converting media files. The free plan is limited to a number of exports per day and a maximum file size, both shown on the pricing page. Paid plans are not yet available; the pricing page describes what they will include and lets you join a waitlist.

Your content

Your files stay yours. Because processing happens on your device, we never possess a copy and claim no rights over anything you create. You are responsible for having the right to edit the files you use.

Acceptable use

Do not use Batonbox to infringe copyright, to process content you are not allowed to process, or to attack the service (for example by automating requests to bypass the daily limit). We may block abusive traffic.

No warranty

The tools are provided as they are. Browsers differ; some export formats depend on codecs your browser provides, and we show only the formats yours supports. Keep your original files. We are not liable for lost or damaged files or for any indirect loss, to the extent permitted by law.

Changes

We may change these terms and the free limits. The date at the top of this page is the effective date; material changes will be announced on the site.
